Chengdu, China will set up a blockchain industry innovation center

On December 27th, the Chengdu Blockchain Industry Innovation Center has been approved by the Chengdu Development and Reform Commission. It is reported that the established blockchain industry innovation center will focus on promoting the innovative application of blockchain technology in the fields of finance, government affairs and people’s livelihood, as well as Sichuan’s characteristic advantageous industries. By the end of 2025, the center will initially form a tens of billions of blockchain industry clusters.

Bloomberg: Electricity prices plummet in Northern Europe, cryptocurrency mining is lucrative

On December 27th, due to the plummeting electricity prices, the Nordic region has once again become a lucrative place for mining cryptocurrency. The wettest weather in at least 20 years has boosted the production of hydroelectric power plants, keeping electricity prices in Sweden and Norway at the lowest levels in the world. The unusually humid weather and mild temperature have brought hydropower stations in the entire Nordic region to the highest level in more than 20 years, making the region’s power generation capacity abundant. The result is that electricity prices are close to zero for a long time. This year’s average electricity price is about one-third that of Germany, Europe’s largest electricity market.
